Zelenka, U.S. cruise into women's pair rowing finals at London Olympics
Former Grand Valley State University rower Sarah Zelenka will continue her trek toward an Olympic medal on Wednesday when she competes in the women’s pair rowing finals on Wednesday.
Zelenka and her partner, Sara Hendershot, finished with the second-best preliminary time behind the host team from Great Britain (six minutes, 57.29 seconds).
The U.S. pair finished in 6:59.29 seconds. Qualifying with the No. 2 time gives Zelenka and Hendershot a berth in the finals and allows them to bypass the repechage, a race that gives pairs who failed to qualify for the finals another shot at qualification.
The duo will aim to finish on the medal stand in their finals race on Wednesday at 5:10 a.m. EST.
