GVSU marching band, campus recreation create exercise program

This past summer, fitness technicians from Grand Valley State University’s Campus Recreation began working with section leaders of the GVSU marching band to create new warm-up exercises to prevent injuries to band members. Student fitness experts were given one section of the band to work with to create routines for that specific section. Exercise routines were created based on the number of people in each section, the weight of the instruments and how they are carried, as well as past stretching/exercising efforts. John Martin, marching band director, said that the routines have already made improvements in the way band members prepare for practice and games.
