Adventures in Las Vegas

I have always heard about Las Vegas – whether on TV, in movies, books or magazines – with its famous slogan, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!” I must admit that nothing in the world can beat the city, especially the Las Vegas Strip.

My aunt and I spent four days in Las Vegas. Every day we would go to different places for breakfast, lunch and dinner in order to experience diverse cuisine and the best of the city. One of our dinners was in Eiffel Tower restaurant; it was very memorable. Of course, I have to admit that one of the reasons was the brilliant view from the window, overviewing the singing fountains of Bellagio, chic atmosphere, great service and tempting meals.

Before leaving the restaurant, we decided to see the ladies room of this precious place at last. When we entered, there was a lady who was greeting everyone. It was her job, which I thought was unusual. Ordinarily, you do not see a hostess in the restroom.

There were three stalls. A blonde lady in front of me went to the first stall, my aunt went to the third and I went to the second. The second I entered, I heard the blonde lady screaming like a crazy person from the first stall. I immediately jumped out from my stall yelling, “What? What happened?”

You may think that I have a very advanced imagination; I think I watched too many American movies. I though there is an attack, takeover, violence – who knows, it is Vegas after all. But then I hear my aunt screaming. She jumps out from there in terror while trying to pull her pants up.

So the lady, who was greeting us says with the shaky voice, “Why are they screaming? What is going on?” She runs away from the panic. The next second, I see the ladies room full of security guys. My aunt and the blonde lady calmed down and finally told us they were screaming because there was a huge cockroach running around. The response of a security guy was, “Oh, all of that screaming was because of a cockroach?”

After the three of us left the restroom, the manager of the restaurant wanted to talk to us. The husband of the blonde lady was also waiting there. She told him what just happened. He was joking that they have to give us a drink or a dessert as a compensation because it is not acceptable to have a cockroach in that kind of place – especially taking into account that it was next to the kitchen.

The manager approached us; he apologized once again and assured that he would take measures to solve the issue. He talked to someone on his phone and told us, “I will call my people.” And the husband of the blonde lady, without thinking twice, said in a very calm and serious tone, “And I will call my people!” You should have seen the manager’s face; he turned pale. It was priceless.
