Grand Rapids Record and CD Show set for Saturday, Sept. 30

For Grand Valley State University students interested in music, memorabilia, books and more, the Grand Rapids Record and CD Show will be providing an opportunity for them to expand their collections. 

The show, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature dealers from all around the Midwest selling vinyl, CDs, tapes and more from musical genres ranging from jazz to progressive. The show will be held in the Westgate Bowl Center’s Banquet Room in downtown Grand Rapids and will cost $1 for admission.

Gallery Conversation Series with professor Jim Goode and Virginia Goode: Carpets and Kilims

Grand Valley State University history professor Jim Goode and his wife, Virginia Goode, formerly of the chemistry department, will be engaging in conversation about their trips to the Middle East as a part of their exhibit, “Afghanistan to Morocco: Journeys of Jim and Virginia Goode.” This event will be held Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The discussion about carpets and kilims is open to all and will take place in the Thomas J. and Marcia J. Haas Center for Performing Arts in the Art Gallery, Room 1121. RSVPs to the event are encouraged, although not required.

Interview workshop being held Thursday, Sept. 28

For students at Grand Valley State University who are interested in attending professional schools, the GVSU Career Center will be hosting an interview workshop in the Seymour and Esther Padnos Hall of Science, Room 261, Thursday, Sept. 28.

The event, which will last from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., is set up to prepare GVSU students for traditional interview styles. Because this event will not be a mock interview, professional attire is not necessary. Ginger Lange from the Career Center will be assisting students who choose to attend and giving them a presentation on how to best prepare for the interviewing process.

Cooking demonstration being held Tuesday, Oct. 3

The Gayle R. Davis Center for Women and Gender Equity will be hosting a cooking demonstration for the on-campus student food pantry, Replenish, on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Room 1201.

The demonstration is LIB 100/201-approved and will teach attending students how to make a well-rounded entrée using items that are frequently found inside of Replenish. Up to 14 students can attend the demonstration led by Jody Vogelzang, director of the clinical dietetics program and assistant professor of public health at GVSU. RSVPs are mandatory.
