‘I Am Grand Valley’ nominations Friday, Oct. 27

To highlight Grand Valley State University student leadership, nominations for GVSU’s annual “I Am Grand Valley” campaign will take place all day Friday, Oct. 27. The campaign gives students, staff and faculty the opportunity to nominate GVSU students as campus and community leaders.

Students who can be nominated are the heads of student organizations, GVSU student employees, excelling students and resident assistants. Nominators are limited to 10 nominations, for which there is a mandatory online nomination form at www.gvsu.edu/iamgv.

Study abroad funding workshop for semester and year-long programs

The Grand Valley State University Padnos International Center will be hosting a funding workshop Friday, Oct. 27, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Lake Ontario Hall, Room 130, for GVSU students planning on attending either a semester-long or year-long study abroad trip.

The workshop aims to help students find sources for funding, from financial aid to scholarships, loans, grants and personal fundraising. Students who attend will also learn about deferred payment options and affordable programs.

‘Get Out’ movie and discussion to be held Monday, Oct. 30

The Grand Valley State University Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is set to host a movie-watching event with the film “Get Out” followed by a discussion. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, in the OMA office in the Kirkhof Center.

The OMA and OMA ambassadors, who organized the event, are inviting GVSU students to join them in watching “Get Out” over snacks and cider. After the film is over, there will be a conversation surrounding the general plot of the movie, as well the film’s hidden messages.

ReACT! performance set for Monday, Oct. 30

The Grand Valley State University organization ReACT!, a theater troupe working against violence, will be holding a performance Monday, Oct. 30, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Room 0072.

ReACT! explores social issues via interactive theater, covering topics such as sexual assault, stalking and relationship violence. A collaborative effort between the Gayle R. Davis Center for Women and Gender Equity and the School of Communications’ theater program, ReACT! counts as a three-credit course for students who are involved.
