'Strange and Magical Beasts' art exhibit open at GVSU
"Strange and Magical Beasts: Etchings by Tony Fitzpatrick" are available to the public for viewing in the West Wall Gallery of the Grand Valley State University L.V. Eberhard Center.
Fitzpatrick, who is a sketch artist native to Chicago, spent time as a boxer, bartender, actor, waiter, tattoo artist and street artist. His works on paper are part of a gift to GVSU that is comprised of more than 120 pieces. The exhibit opened in November and will remain open until March 2018. Doors are open and admission is free.
STAGE presents 'SOAP'
The Student Theatrical Arts Guild for Entertainment at Grand Valley State University will showcase its student one-act plays (SOAP) at Area 51 in the basement of the Kirkhof Center. The showcase will start Friday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. and end Saturday, Nov. 18, at 8 p.m.
The student-written and student-directed plays will involve teched shows that contain adult language and content. Admission is free and the show is open to the public. STAGE meets Thursday nights at 9 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center.

Tournées Film Festival
The Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College French programs will continue the 2017 Tournées Film Festival this week. The French productions are being screened through Friday, Nov. 17, in Grand Rapids.
Friday’s films will be "Fatima" at 4 p.m. and "Marguerite" at 7:30 p.m., and both will be shown at the GRCC ATC Auditorium.

Spotlight Productions to show new movie in Kirkhof Center
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be playing in the Kirkhof Center Big Screen Theater starting Friday, Nov. 17. The theater is located by the recreation room behind the 20/20 desk. The premiere will start at 9 p.m. and popcorn will be provided.
The Marvel Studios movie starring Chris Pratt will be playing until Thursday, Nov. 30. Showtimes are every day at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. The Big Screen Theater is part of Spotlight Productions and Student Life, which screen new movies every other Friday.

You Beautiful Black Woman meetings
The You Beautiful Black Woman campaign meets Tuesdays in the Kirkhof Center, Room 2270, at 8 p.m. The Grand Valley State University chapter meets to discuss the enhancement of strength, knowledge and beauty in the united uplifting of women across campuses.
The organization started at Ferris State University and now continues at GVSU with meetings, events and activities such as the Dating Game and Fireside Chats. The group meets at GVSU to raise societal awareness of African-American women. It is the largest minority group on campus with members ranging from freshman students to graduate students.
