Blood Drive taking place on campus this week

The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive from Monday, Nov. 27 to Thursday, Nov. 30 at Grand Valley State University. 

The “Blood Bus” will be at Kleiner Commons on Monday and Tuesday, and will move to the Kirkhof Center parking lot on Wednesday and Thursday. The host organization for the blood drive is Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM).

Breakfast lecture to take place at GVSU

The Peter F. Secchia Breakfast Lecture, “West Side Story,” will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the Seidman Center on Grand Valley State University’s Pew Campus from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Mike Van Gessel, president of Rockford Construction will be the featured speaker.

Sexual assault prevention conversation to take place at GVSU

Grand Valley State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) will hold a conversation focused on the prevention of sexual assault on campus on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in Kirkhof Center room 1142.  

The event is designed to be an open space for dialogue on the prevention of sexual assault at GVSU. The event is LIB 100-approved. Those interested in learning more can visit http://www.gvsu.edu/events/sexual-assault-prevention-at-gvsu-lib-100201-approved/.

Kent County offering free HIV testing this week

The Kent County Health Department is offering free walk-in HIV testing from Monday, Nov. 27 to Friday, Dec. 1, a day recognized as World AIDS Day. The testing will be done at the Health Department’s main clinic, located on 700 Fuller Ave. NE in Grand Rapids.

Health Forum of West Michigan to take place at GVSU on Friday

The Health Forum of West Michigan series will continue at Grand Valley State University on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 a.m. in the DeVos Center’s Loosemore Auditorium. The topic of the forum will be “The Intersection of Human and Animal Health.”  

Panelists include Shannon Briggs, toxicologist for the State of Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Mary Grace Stobierski, state public health veterinarian, Andrew James, physician for Mercy Health Saint Mary’s, and Michael VanderKlok, bovine tuberculosis eradication manager for the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
