It is said in baseball that good pitching stops good hitting. That is exactly the case for the Grand Valley State University pitching staff, which has lead the team to 15 wins in its first 17 games.

Lakers lead off GLIAC season with a sweep

The Grand Valley State University baseball team could not have hoped for a better start to the GLIAC season. The Lakers (15-2, 4-0 GLIAC) took all four weekend games on the road against Lake Erie College (7-8, 0-4 GLIAC). They were the first games in more than two weeks for the team, but GVSU played like they were in midseason form, outscoring the Storm 32-8 in the series. GVSU starting pitcher Kyle Schepel, who go the win in the final game of the series, said all areas of the team played at the top of their game. “All the pitchers have been throwing really well,” he said.

Lakers sweep weekend games

The Grand Valley State University softball team continued its hot start to the season this weekend as it swept a slate of weekend games against Malone University, Notre Dame College (Ohio) and Urbana University during the Blue Knight Invitational in Urbana, Ohio.

Lakers head south to start season

As pitchers and catchers begin to report to spring training, the Grand Valley State University baseball team got a head start on the MLB and the rest of the baseball world last weekend as the team got its earliest start to the regular season in program history.
