The submission window for Grand Valley State University's Laker Effect Challenge is open until Friday, March 2.  The competition invites students and faculty to submit pitches that will have an impact on the West Michigan community. A panel of judges will award up to $5,000 to the winning pitch, with another $500 being available to the best poster.

Four Grand Valley State University students, Katarina Samardzija (entrepreneurship and marketing), Zach Skogheim (entrepreneurship and finance), Luciano Hernandez (management) and Jordan Vanderham (engineering) are competing in the Outdoor Weber Recreation Idea Competition.

The 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition gives graduate students the opportunity to share their research with other students in a competitive atmosphere. Each participant will be allowed one static slide and will be required to deliver their presentation in under three minutes.

Grand Valley State University President Thomas Haas sent out a campus-wide email Tuesday, Jan. 30, regarding sexual assault/harassment reporting and support services. Haas began the email by stating that GVSU takes the responsibility of caring for campus community members seriously, as well as addressing sexual assault and harassment, to ensure a safe university environment.

The Grand Valley State University community is in mourning after the death of John Canepa, a philanthropist and business leader. Canepa passed on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the age of 87 after sustaining injuries in a Monday, Jan. 22, pedestrian-vehicle accident in Grand Rapids.

A sedan with the words “cheating whore” was seen on Grand Valley State University’s Allendale Campus and was reported to the GVSU Police Department late last week, according to Sgt. Jeff Stoll.

Grand Valley State University’s Spotlight Productions announced Thursday, Jan. 18, that the band All Time Low will headline the 2018 GVSU spring concert on Thursday, April 5. It was previously announced that recording artist Gnash would serve as the opening act for the show. Ticket information has yet to be announced by Spotlight.

The Padnos International Center will host its study-abroad fair Thursday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Henry Hall Atrium. Students interested in seeing what study abroad is all about are welcome to browse the different programs and speak to students who have participated in them.
