Celebration of Black Arts to kick off Black History Month

To kick off Black History Month, the Grand Valley State University Black Student Union (BSU) is holding the annual Celebration of Black Arts on Saturday, Feb. 3. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center Grand River Room. Various student organizations will be performing to honor the legacies of African-American entertainers.

GVSU observes Transgender Day of Remembrance

Grand Valley State University celebrated Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday, Nov. 13. To highlight the national holiday, Susan Stryker was brought in by the Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center to give a keynote lecture on transgender issues and history.

Delta Phi Lambda to host Global Gala Cultural Showcase

The Global Gala Cultural Showcase, sponsored by Delta Phi Lambda Sorority Inc., is held every year at Grand Valley State University. Student organizations gather to put on performances during a three-hour extravaganza. This year, the cultural showcase will take place Friday, Nov. 17, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center Grand River Room.

GVSU students hold 'Art Is a Drag' exhibit in library space

For Grand Valley State University students Rachel Britton and Kaylee Britton, drag has become not only a source of performance and entertainment but a source of artistic expression as well. Highlighting this, their exhibit "Art Is a Drag: The Library Is Open" is being held in the Mary Idema Pew Library’s Exhibition Space from Saturday, Nov. 4, to Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Revive hosts annual conference

Approximately 30 attendees gathered to experience the annual conference hosted by the student organization Revive at Grand Valley State University Saturday, Oct. 21, in the Kirkhof Center. The conference, which focused on issues affecting minority populations, was a combination of five sessions co-sponsored by the Omicron Alpha Chapter of the Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc.

Gearing up for Campus Life Night

More than 400 registered student organizations will be represented at Grand Valley State University's Campus Life Night this year.  The annual event, designed to showcase GVSU's many student clubs and organizations and connect incoming and returning students with extracurricular opportunities, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Parking Lot H.

GVSU Laker Familia Orientation kicks off fall semester

The 2017 Laker Familia Orientation is a three-day program designed specifically to welcome Latino/a students to Grand Valley State University. The program provides students with a personal welcome to campus; opportunities to connect with fellow students, faculty and staff; and tools for navigating many campus and community resources.
