'Stomp Out Stigma' 5K walk advocates mental health awareness

To aid in raising mental health awareness and advocacy, the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan will be hosting its 2017 "Stomp Out Stigma" 5K walk Saturday, May 20, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Grand Valley State University's L. William Seidman Center, located in downtown Grand Rapids across from GVSU's Pew Campus.

Laker Marching Band drumline auditions to kick off this month

The Grand Valley State University Laker Marching Band (LMB) is one of the largest and most visible NCAA Division II marching bands in the country and has provided music and entertainment for football fans since 1977.  This year's auditions for the LMB drumline will begin Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continue Sunday, May 21, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 1515 of the Performing Arts Center on the Allendale Campus.

'Consent and healthy relationships'

Grand Valley State University is partnering with the Center for Women in Transition (CWT) to welcome Brooke Axtell to campus to talk about consent and healthy relationships. This event will take place Friday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center Pere Marquette Room Friday. Attendance is free, and all students, faculty and staff are encouraged to come.

Student Life to host award reception

Every year at Grand Valley State University, the Office of Student Life hosts the Student Life Awards Reception. This event recognizes student organizations and members that have had successes in different areas. This year’s reception will take place Thursday, April 20, in the Kirkhof Center Grand River Room from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Around 200 people are expected to attend.

Making 'going green' personal

Grand Valley State University is an institution that takes great pride in its sustainability practices. From LEED-certified buildings, an emphasis on recycling and the handful of sustainability groups on campus, GVSU makes an effort to ensure that the campus is environmentally safe.

Feminist Film Friday to focus on sexual assualt awareness

For the upcoming Feminist Film Friday hosted by the Grand Valley State University Women’s Center, faculty members will use time allotted Friday, April 21, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., to support those who have been victimized by sexual assault. Though these films occur monthly, this special showing of “It Happened Here” acts as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and commemorates those who have been impacted by sexual assault and domestic violence.
