GVSU observes Transgender Day of Remembrance

Grand Valley State University celebrated Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday, Nov. 13. To highlight the national holiday, Susan Stryker was brought in by the Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center to give a keynote lecture on transgender issues and history.

A cappella group Backtrack will be coming to Grand Valley State University Wednesday, Nov. 15, for an evening of a cappella. The award-winning group from New York City has garnered more than 8.7 million views on YouTube with around 100,000 subscribers.

Award-winning film director to speak at GVSU

Award-winning director Sarah Price will be giving a lecture at Grand Valley State University investigating the state of women in the media industry. The lecture, which will take place Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. in Room 246 of Lake Superior Hall, will be preceded by a showing of her movie, "L7: Pretend We’re Dead," at 4 p.m in the same location.

GVSU students hold 'Art Is a Drag' exhibit in library space

For Grand Valley State University students Rachel Britton and Kaylee Britton, drag has become not only a source of performance and entertainment but a source of artistic expression as well. Highlighting this, their exhibit "Art Is a Drag: The Library Is Open" is being held in the Mary Idema Pew Library’s Exhibition Space from Saturday, Nov. 4, to Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Annual Lamp Light Music Festival held in Grand Rapids

Music reverberated through the living room of the Sage House, a Grand Rapids location for house concerts, for the annual Lamp Light Music Festival. Packed with people, the space buzzed with an intimate, friendly energy.  The sixth annual festival was held this weekend from Friday, Nov. 3, through Sunday, Nov. 5. Held in the Eastown area of Grand Rapids, the house concert festival offered artists a unique space to perform.

GVSU piano professor to perform on campus

Sookkyung Cho, Grand Valley State University assistant professor of piano, is an expressive pianist who has traveled around the globe to showcase her talent. Cho will be performing solo repertoire Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall in the Haas Center for Performing Arts.

Bard to Go brings Shakespeare to life in DeVos Center

While many students may be introduced to the works of William Shakespeare in an English class, Grand Valley State University's student organization Bard to Go is aiming to share Shakespeare the way they think it should be: on the stage. The group performed "The Wonder of Will: This Is Your Afterlife!" at the DeVos Center Loosemore Auditorium Saturday, Nov. 4, as part of GVSU’s Shakespeare Festival.
