GVSU students to host sex-education resource fair

Despite the reality that thousands of college students are sexually active, the topic is not often openly discussed, which can lead to a lack of sexual education among college students.  To combat miseducation and to advocate for safe sex, students from Grand Valley State University’s LIB 326 course, "Sexuality, Justice and Advocacy," will be is hosting the Get Sex(Ed) Resource Fair, the university’s first peer-led sexuality-education-resource fair.

‘Five Chapters’ exhibits artists’ photography, transition from college life

As seniors at Grand Valley State University select their classes for the final time, the oncoming steps of a new life become a reality, shifting students into the professional world. For photography students Jordan Barnett, Sean Barr, J.J. Butts, Brittany Patrosso and Kasey Reno, these transitions are captured through their own lens in the "Five Chapters: Photography Senior Thesis Exhibition."

Global Gala highlights different cultures at GVSU

The Kirkhof Center Grand River Room was turned into a culturally collaborative festival Friday, Nov. 17, for the Global Gala presented by the Iota Chapter of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. The annual gala featured performances from a plethora of Grand Valley State University cultural clubs and teams, all assembled by the sorority.

GVSU observes Transgender Day of Remembrance

Grand Valley State University celebrated Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday, Nov. 13. To highlight the national holiday, Susan Stryker was brought in by the Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center to give a keynote lecture on transgender issues and history.


Arts briefs 11/13/17

A cappella group Backtrack will be coming to Grand Valley State University Wednesday, Nov. 15, for an evening of a cappella. The award-winning group from New York City has garnered more than 8.7 million views on YouTube with around 100,000 subscribers.

Award-winning film director to speak at GVSU

Award-winning director Sarah Price will be giving a lecture at Grand Valley State University investigating the state of women in the media industry. The lecture, which will take place Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. in Room 246 of Lake Superior Hall, will be preceded by a showing of her movie, "L7: Pretend We’re Dead," at 4 p.m in the same location.

GVSU students hold 'Art Is a Drag' exhibit in library space

For Grand Valley State University students Rachel Britton and Kaylee Britton, drag has become not only a source of performance and entertainment but a source of artistic expression as well. Highlighting this, their exhibit "Art Is a Drag: The Library Is Open" is being held in the Mary Idema Pew Library’s Exhibition Space from Saturday, Nov. 4, to Wednesday, Nov. 29.
