GVSU football crushes Davenport in first home game

The Grand Valley State Lakers defeated the Davenport University Panthers 48-0 in their season home opener at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale, Michigan. It was the first matchup ever between the two programs and was seen in front of the second-largest crowd in GVSU history. The Lakers move to 1-1 (1-0 GLIAC) for the year, while Davenport drops to 0-2 (0-1 GLIAC).

Before the Grand Valley State football team began its season, the team was highly regarded around the Division II world and earned the No. 2 ranking in the country, voted by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). However, after the Lakers were upset by unranked University of Indianapolis Thursday, Aug. 31, GVSU football’s overall ranking fell all the way down to the No. 14 spot in the AFCA rankings.
