Delta Upsilon fraternity shut down at GVSU

An email was sent out to various members of the Greek community Thursday, March 16, warning students to be thoughtful about how they talked about the closing of the Delta Upsilon chapter at Grand Valley State University. Since the official announcement, the decision to close down a GVSU fraternity has spread to local and state-wide media stations.

21st Century Michigan Education Commission releases recommendations for state school systems

The 21st Century Michigan Education Commission has now concluded and has produced a report containing 32 recommendations pertaining to Michigan’s education system. The chairman of the commission, Grand Valley State University President Thomas Haas, said the recommendations outlined in the report are necessary to save Michigan from its current low-ranking status in K-12 education.

Student Nurses' Association wins national award

Nursing involves years of training and study, a love for helping others and an appreciation for life. For Jamie Platt, the president of the Grand Valley State University Student Nurses’ Association (SNA), having the SNA recognized for its members’ hard work and dedication demonstrates the organization members’ willingness to serve their surrounding community.

'Meet the Candidates'

From national and state elections, to student-governing body elections at universities, it's important for voters to get to know their candidate and understand their platforms and what they are campaigning about. With this in mind, Grand Valley State University's student senate is hosting a "Meet the Candidates" event Wednesday, March 22, at 9 p.m. in Kirkhof Center's Pere Marquette Room.

Student senate elections open through next week

With almost 500 student organizations at Grand Valley State University, it can be overwhelming for students to decide which ones to get involved with. Some can make for an easy decision, for example if a student likes to sail, they can join the sailing club, or if they have an interest in bees, they can join the bee club. And for those looking to be leaders and become civically engaged on and off campus, student senate can offer that to all students.

Stepping up

Two members of the Grand Valley State University Graduate Student Association (GSA) are stepping up to the plate to run for the roles of president and vice president of the organization. Both Tyler Kanczuzewski and Daniel Myers have been active members of the GSA and are eager to increase their responsibilities and obtain leadership positions. The GSA elections began Monday, March 13, and will run through Thursday, March 23.

Engaging in the political process

The Grand Valley State University College Democrats club will host its first annual Lakers Gala Saturday, March 18, to raise funds for the fledgling organization, invigorate young voters and connect with different Michigan governmental leaders. The gala will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the GVSU Alumni House and is open to all GVSU faculty, staff and students free of charge.
