GVSU Dance Company to perform spring concert

The Grand Valley State University Dance Company and the Freshman Dance Company are preparing their performances for their spring dance concert this upcoming weekend. The concert, which will be held at the Thomas J. and Marcia J. Haas Center for Performing Arts, is set for Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Swing Dance Club closes semester with performance

Grand Valley State University’s Swing Dance Club has made its way back into our calendars for the organization's annual showcase, closing the semester with a night of performing. The showcase will take place Saturday, April 14, at 8 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center Pere Marquette Room. T-shirts and carnations will be for sale as well.

GVSU hosts annual Sexual Assault Awareness Week

For the last nine years, April has been Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Taking advantage of that awareness and applying it to Grand Valley State University, a consent education and sexual assault prevention student organization implemented Sexual Assault Awareness Week, which has been observed at GVSU since 2009.

Alex Jenny discusses healing in keynote

Alex Jenny spoke softly, but every word they said hit with intention in the Kirkhof Center Monday, April 2. Jenny is a therapist, model and actor who runs various social media with their partner, Effee Nelly. They came to speak at Grand Valley State University for Sexual Assault Awareness Week. Jenny was brought to GVSU by Campus for Consent, an organization that is holding various events throughout the month.

Grand Rapids to host annual Latin American Film Festival

For Grand Valley State University community members interested in other cultures, the Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival (GRLAFF) may offer an exciting and entertaining means of learning.  The festival runs from Friday, April 6, through Sunday, April 8, at the Wealthy Street Theatre in Grand Rapids. Along with diverse films, there will also be authentic Latin American food. The festival is LIB 100- and 201-approved.

Grand Valley State University professor Lisa Feurzeig, who teaches music history, literature and world music, is set to report on research she conducted while on a Fulbright grant in Austria, focusing on different styles of performance in Austria, Hungary and Germany. She will give her presentation Friday, March 30, in the Cook-DeWitt Center from noon to 1 p.m.
