Student senate holds first general assembly of 2018

The Grand Valley State University student senate convened Thursday, Jan. 11, for its first general assembly of the semester. The evening’s agenda included two guest speakers from the university, a public comment period, president and vice president reports and a working general assembly session.

GVPD holds active-shooter-response training in Mackinac Hall

Approximately 40-plus police officers, 20-plus firefighters and 20 to 25 volunteers participated in the Grand Valley State University Police Department’s largest annual training session designed to prepare its staff for an active-shooter situation on campus. As part of its yearly exercise, the GVPD partnered with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and other emergency organizations on Sunday, Dec. 17, to practice confrontation and rescue techniques. This year, local fire departments also participated for the first time.

Veterans Upward Bound names director, goals for students

The new year brings new programs and leadership to Grand Valley State University. This past year, GVSU received a federal grant worth $1.3 million to establish new veteran education programming, resulting in the creation of the TRIO Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) office, and now a director has been appointed to lead the VUB.

Parking Services changes lot hours, policies for exam week

All-night study sessions, last-minute cramming and excessive amounts of coffee—these are some of the many signs that exam week is starting. To help reduce some of students’ stress during this time, as well as help students prepare for their holiday departures, Parking Services at Grand Valley State University has made some changes to its normal procedures and policies.
