GVSU soccer advances to Midwest Regional Championship after 4-0 win over Ohio Dominican

The road to their fifth straight NCAA National Championship appearance continues for the Grand Valley State soccer team. In the Midwest Regional Semifinals, the No. 1-seeded Lakers (19-3-0) didn’t skip a beat in their convincing 4-0 victory over the No. 5-seeded Ohio Dominican (16-5-2) in the rain Sunday, Nov. 12, at the GVSU soccer field. The win advances the Lakers to the Midwest Regional Championship.

After an incredibly successful season and adding their 11th-straight GLIAC Tournament Championship under their belt, the Grand Valley State women’s soccer team can add one more notch to that belt as they enter the postseason. On Monday, Nov. 6, the Lakers (18-3-0, 9-0-0 GLIAC) were selected as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

When GVSU athletic programs begin their recruiting search, there’s a consensus on the three distinct qualities that separate Lakers from athletes in any other program: dominating in their sport, going above and beyond in the classroom, and being willing and passionate about giving back to the community. Recently graduated GVSU soccer player Clare Carlson not only checked all three boxes, but she did so in fashion as she was recently awarded NCAA Woman of the Year Top 30 Honoree in Indianapolis, Indiana, Sunday, Oct. 22.

GVSU soccer sweeps road weekend series, claims GLIAC regular season title

Another year, another GLIAC regular season title.  Taking an eight-hour trip up north, the No. 3-ranked Grand Valley State soccer team (15-2, 9-0 GLIAC) didn’t come up empty-handed, claiming their 13th-straight GLIAC regular season title during the team’s 2-0 victory over Michigan Technological University Friday, Oct. 20, and 3-1 win over Northern Michigan University Sunday, Oct. 22.
