Bittersweet: Despite their season ending earlier than expected, the 2018 Grand Valley State softball squad had quite the season.

Despite abrupt exit, GVSU softball proud of 2018 campaign

All good things have to eventually come to an end, and that’s exactly the case with Grand Valley State softball for the 2018 season.  GVSU had a dominant regular season, posting an impressive 24-2 record in conference and 44-9 season overall, finishing in first place in the GLIAC and winning the GLIAC tournament before falling to Southern Indiana 2-1 on May 13 in the NCAA Midwest Region Tournament.

Know your Lakers: GVSU catcher Kaylie Rhynard delivering at the plate

The Grand Valley State softball team is exceeding already-high expectations this season, as the Lakers' current record is 29-5. They remain undefeated in the GLIAC with a 16-0 record, holding sole possession of first place in the conference while being in the midst of a 21-game winning streak. There have been many reasons for this team’s success, including the high performance and consistency from the catcher position. Redshirt junior Kaylie Rhynard is the reason for that consistency.

Know your Lakers: GVSU softball pitcher Allie Grys

The Grand Valley State softball team continues to dominate this season behind excellent pitching, picking up two more wins against Wayne State on Monday, April 2. The Lakers held the Warriors to only two runs total in the doubleheader. The second game of the doubleheader was won by GVSU pitcher Allison Grys. She pitched another solid outing, giving up only one run, two walks and four hits to Wayne State.

Quick hits: GVSU lacrosse, softball, club rowing

For the sixth game in a row, the No. 16 Grand Valley State lacrosse team won, grabbing a 19-13 victory over the McKendree University Bearcats in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Saturday, March 31, at the GVSU lacrosse field.
