GVSU softball falls in College World Series

A mile high in altitude and in enthusiasm, the Grand Valley State softball team traveled to Denver, Colorado with a dream of bringing home the program’s first national championship. The dream was short-lived, but the memories of reaching the NCAA Division II College World Series will last a lifetime.

GVSU sweeps Wayne State 2-0 in NCAA Super Regionals

Swarm the circle and pose for the pictures. The Grand Valley State softball team is the 2016 Midwest Super Regional champions. The fourth seeded Lakers (43-11) stunned the hosts and third seeded (No. 10 nationally) Wayne State (50-10) with a remarkable seventh inning rally in a 5-4 game one victory on May 11 and then defeated the Warriors in a tight 1-0 pitching duel on May 12 to win the best-of-three series.

Team players are easy to spot, but hardly get the praise they deserve. Every sport has them, from Grand Valley State offensive linemen creating a barricade in front of quarterback Bart Williams to volleyball players Audrey Kidd and Carley Gross sidelined with injuries, but still finishing out their senior seasons.
