GVSU men’s basketball uses hot shooting to beat Grace Christian

While of the student body was at home visiting family for Thanksgiving break, the Grand Valley State men's basketball team was busy adding another win to their record, beating Grace Christian 87-70 in a home match-up. With Grace Christian running a two-three zone for the majority of the game, the Lakers started out with a lack of energy, but got ah old of how to handle the defense as the game went along.

Lakers' women's basketball routs Concordia-Ann Arbor

While students were wrapping up their short Thanksgiving break and preparing for the two-week spring leading to finals, the No. 18 ranked Grand Valley State women’s basketball team blew out the Concordia Cardinals 86-42 on Saturday, Nov. 24 at GVSU’s Fieldhouse Arena. Center Cassidy Boensch was the star of the Lakers’ show, scoring 24 points on 12-15 shooting while pulling down 16 rebounds and swatting three blocks while obtaining her double-double before halftime.

Preview: GVSU women's soccer prepares to compete in Final Four

The No. 1 Grand Valley State women’s soccer team is headed to Pittsburgh, Penn. on Thursday, Nov. 29 to play in the last stretch of the NCAA tournament. Now in the final four with the No. 1 seed, there is some heightened pressure on the Lakers, but they are handling it well and taking it day by day. With nearly two weeks between the Lakers' last game against Central Missouri and their Pittsburgh match-up against Lee, head coach Jeff Hosler said they are preparing slightly different than past tournament practices.

GVSU women’s basketball drops first road game against Lewis

Despite a trio of Lakers scoring in double digits, the Grand Valley State women’s basketball lost for the first time this season, falling to the Lewis Flyers 74-66. With the loss, the Lakers post a 2-1 record heading into Thanksgiving break.  While GVSU was winning 19-17 at the end of the first quarter and was able to match Lewis’ 18 fourth quarter points, the lead built up by LU in the second and third quarters ended up being too much for the Lakers.

Tenacious 'D': GVSU men's basketball uses defensive effort to win home opener

The Grand Valley State men’s basketball team was able to keep the ball rolling on Friday, Nov. 16 as they came away with a 97-81 victory over the Tiffin Dragons in a back-and-forth game at GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena. Sophomore standout Jake Van Tubbergen led all Lakers with 21 points and nine rebounds, with five of those coming on the offensive end. He wasn’t the only Laker to light up the scoreboard, as Zach West poured in 20 points, Jeremiah Ferguson finished with 17 and Hunter Hale contributed 16 to help GVSU to victory.

GVSU men's and women's cross country sweep regionals, look ahead to nationals

The Grand Valley State men’s and women’s cross country teams continued their dominant ways as they both took home NCAA Regional Championship victories on Saturday, Nov. 17. This comes after both teams continued to dominate the GLIAC Conference Championships as the men have won 17 straight conference championships and the women have won 18 straight. The streak has now been extended to regional titles as well with the men winning 17 straight and women winning 18.
