GVSU volleyball makes 10-day trip to Italy, Slovenia

Grand Valley State’s volleyball team took a hit last season after losing to Ferris State in the first round of the GLIAC quarterfinals tournament. The Lakers moved on from last season as they looked forward to their 10-day Italy trip. The trip kicked off Friday, July 21, allowing the GVSU team to visit Slovenia and Italy. The Lakers gained an opportunity to play five games against foreign teams.

Developing 'Locker Lifestyle'

Sometimes all you need is just a simple idea. You may have once bragged to your friends that you had that infamous “billion dollar idea,” but because of other time commitments, lack of passion and dedication to the project, that idea never became a reality. However, some of us are more dedicated than others. And in the case of Grand Valley State women's tennis player Katarina Samardzija, she committed to go all the way with her idea.

Quicks Hits: What you missed

Former Grand Valley State soccer player Clare Carlson has earned many accolades during her time as a Laker, including two-time GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team, NSCAA Scholar All-American, two-time Fall GLIAC Commissioner’s award (2015 and 2016), and a 3.9 GPA.

GVL / Luke Holmes - Head Coach, Jeff Hosler, looks on to the play. GVSU Women's Soccer defeats University of Findlay at home Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016.

Looking forward

Grand Valley State women’s soccer fell short of tying a record in 2016. After falling to Western Washington in 2016’s Division II National Championship, the Lakers' run of three consecutive national championships came to an end. It was the first time in the three-year tenure of Head Coach Jeff Hosler (68-5-4) that GVSU had failed to capture the national title.
