Germany native Moritz Bartels making a splash for GVSU swimming

As practice is winding down, members of the Grand Valley State swimming team do one last rotation of 50 yards before exiting the pool. They’re all on the same page, crawling their way to the finish one by one.  In the middle of the pack is Moritz Bartels, a freshman distance swimmer who is wrapping up an intense race with fellow distance swimmer Dayen Wilson. Bartels gets out of the pool with a wide smile on his face, seemingly not phased by the fact that he just swam 1,200 yards during the practice.

GVSU swimming and diving teams grab victories over Findlay

As the season is winding down for the Grand Valley State swimming and diving teams, the level of performance is increasing. After a dominant performance against rival Wayne State last weekend, GVSU imposed its will on former GLIAC rival University of Findlay. This weekend had more implications than one, as 12 seniors competed for the last time in the Fieldhouse Arena on Saturday, Jan. 13, in Allendale.

Quick hits: Cassidy Boensch's basketball GLIAC honors, swimming and rifle club results

The Grand Valley State women’s basketball team has been rolling so far this year, winning their past six contests to establish a comfortable 13-2 overall record (6-1 GLIAC). But the road hasn’t been easy, as this year’s team has been recently plagued with the injury bug to key players. Luckily for the Lakers, they have sophomore Cassidy Boensch, the team’s tallest player at 6 feet 4 inches, to come off the bench and be productive in the paint.

GVSU swimming and diving trains in Florida over winter break

Winter break may have been snowy for most Grand Valley State students, but some lucky student athletes got the chance to come back with a few tan lines—and a ton of memories. The GVSU men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for a week of intense training at Nova Southeastern University. For head coach Andy Boyce, this trip is a great opportunity for his athletes to improve.

GVSU swimming and diving teams dominate in Calvin Invitational

Christmas came early this year for Grand Valley State's swimming and diving as they entered the holiday season.  The Lakers took a quick bus ride to Grand Rapids to compete against eight different schools in the Calvin College Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 30, through Saturday, Dec. 2. GVSU placed first for both men and women over the three-day invitational. The women finished with a total team score of 1,772.5 points, while the men totaled 2,100 points
