GVSU theater club STAGE to present new production

Sometimes, life doesn’t go according to plan. Change is an inevitable part of living, and it isn’t always simple. It’s easy to sit helpless on life’s roller coaster, but it isn’t mandatory. It’s never too late to take control. Grand Valley State University theater club STAGE will present The End: A Tragedy of Three Parts Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m. in Kindschi Hall of Science, Room 1121 on the Allendale Campus.

GVSU to host Shakespeare Auditions workshop

Learn all there is to know about the work of Shakespeare and gather tips for upcoming performance auditions for the 2017 Shakespeare Festival at the Shakespeare Festival Audition Workshop this spring with Katherine Mayberry. The workshop will be held Friday, April 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Performing Arts Center, Room 1103. Registration for the workshop is located at the box office in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center.

West Michigan Youth Ballet presents 'Sleeping Beauty'

Many people are familiar with the classic story of Sleeping Beauty, the fairy-tale which involves a beautiful princess, a sleeping enchantment and a handsome prince; however, underneath the charming Disney story lurks a twisted version that the West Michigan Youth Ballet (WMYB) plans to capture through the use of colorful costumes and graceful dancing. The performance of Sleeping Beauty will be held Saturday, March 25, at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at DeVos Center for Arts and Worship Grand Rapids Christian High.

GVSU Theater Department presents Detroit

A person can easily find trouble if they look in the right places, and occasionally it finds them. Sometimes, trouble can live right next door. The Grand Valley State University theater department will present Detroit, a dark comedy play written by Lisa D’Amour, beginning Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Louis Armstrong Theater in the Performing Arts Center on the Allendale Campus.

GVSU theater presents Helen for spring production

Grand Valley State University encourages all students who are interested in acting and theater stage production to mark their calendars for the upcoming auditions for this year’s spring play, Euripides’ “Helen.” Auditions will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, Room 1103, on the Allendale Campus and Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, Room 1525.

‘Good Kids’ performance addresses sexual assault

Based on true events of rape, sexual assault and the fallout of the community involved, “Good Kids” is a play telling the story of Chloe, a girl from Steubenville, Ohio, who is drugged, sexually assaulted and forced to relive the incident through photos and videos posted online by her assaulters.
