Bertrand leads as GVSU springs into 2-0 start

The GVSU men rolled through the competition in its first action of the spring campaign, giving them an early 2-0 record on the season. The Lakers defeated Davenport University on Friday 8-1 at the MVP Sports Club and followed it up with a sweep of Cornerstone University 9-0 at the Ramblewood Health Club.

'Try out' makes his mark at GVSU

Aaron Marken swam just one year at Milan High School and wasn’t sure what to expect when he tried out for the Grand Valley State University swimming team. Marken, now a 22-year-old senior, certainly didn’t expect to break four school records and qualify for nationals in all four of his seasons as a Laker. “That was the crazy thing for me,” he said. “The coaching staff that we have here at Grand Valley is great. I barely made it, and then one semester of coaching later I got way better.”

Wiercinski dives into GV history once again

Sophomore diver Taylor Wiercinski and the Grand Valley State University men’s and women’s diving teams showed off some postseason promise in their final event of the regular season. Wiercinski set a pair of pool records to highlight GVSU’s sweep of Hope College in its first ever diving meet, which featured an 11-dive format that is used at the conference and national meets.

Wiercinski bests national champ in 3-meter

Taylor Wiercinski is just a sophomore for the Grand Valley State University women’s diving team, but she has achieved so much in just two seasons. Wiercinski’s most recent accomplishment might just be her most impressive. The Laker standout broke the GVSU school record in the 3-meter dive against Wayne State University on Jan. 11 — beating the reigning national champion and first team All-American in the process.
