GVSU softball adds six recruits

Grand Valley State University’s softball head coach recently announced the addition of six athletes who will be joining his program this fall and will be eligible to play during the 2015 season.

The high school students are: Tanner Kiessel (Portage, Mich./Portage Central), Courtney Reinhold (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley), Kaylie Rhynard (Shepherd, Mich.), Teagan Shomin (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview), Taylor Sparks (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran), and Heather Sperlazzo (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North).

Woods projects Kiessel and Sparks as utility players, Reinhold as a pitcher, Rhynard as a catcher/infielder, Shomin as an outfielder and Sperlazzo as a first baseman.

The Lakers won the Midwest Regional championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II College World Series for the second time in program history a year ago with a record of 46-9.
