Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell advises voters to raise tax for potholes

In his most recent video blog post, Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell advised voters to authorize a city income tax to help fund road improvements. On May 6, the city’s ballot will include a proposal asking voters to extend an increase in income tax, which is set to expire, for an additional 15 years. The tax is estimated to generate $9.9 million per year to fund vital streets in the city. Heartwell admitted in the video blog that it has been too long since the city has invested in street improvement.
