Julie Hooker's "Resonance" consists of over 16,000 individual pieces of glass. The piece is displayed inside the second level of the Harris building. Grand Rapids' annual ArtPrize is held from Sept. 23 - Oct. 1 at various locations around the city.

Jie Luo's "Imprisoned," 2008, incorportes sinister figures from his life to create dynamic works of art. The annual Fall Arts Celebration unveils the "Dusk to Dusk: Unsettled, Unraveled, Unreal" exhibit Sept. 10 inside the Performing Arts Center on Grand Valley's Allendale campus.

Unsettled, Unraveled, Unreal; showcases contemporary art

An empty hoody, a body double and skin removed from a body are images on display in the exhibit “Dusk to Dusk: Unsettled, Unraveled, Unreal.” Showcasing various artists in a variety of mediums, the exhibit contains international contemporary art that focuses on the isolation of the individual in the modern world.

The Mathias Alten exhibit is displayed in the George and Barbara Gordon Gallery on GVSU's Devos Campus. GVSU has the largest public collection of Alten's work with over 70 of his paintings permanently on display.

Changes in store for permanent art exhibit

From floral paintings for a living room to landscape murals for a beer garden, Mathias J. Alten contributed a greeat deal to the Grand Rapids art scene in the early 20th century. Alten’s work is on display in a permanent exhibit on Grand Valley State University’s Pew Campus.
