Scholar Discussion Wendy Doniger, a professor of religion at the University of Chicago will give a presentation at Grand Valley State University Monday, Nov. 7 at the Mary Idema Pew Library Multipurpose Room. The presentation will begin at noon with a reception held at 11:30 a.m. Doniger will participate in a book signing after the event. The presentation will cover topics including religion and censorship.

MSU president to give speech at GV Lou Anna Simon, Michigan State University’s 20th president, will present at Grand Valley State University Monday, Oct. 31. Simon will serve as the keynote speaker as part of the ongoing Peter F. Secchia Breakfast Lecture Series. Simon’s lecture is titled "Land-grant Engagement for the 21st Century” and it will focus on the importance of incorporating values such as inclusiveness and connectivity at the university level. The event will be held in the L. William Seidman Center located on GVSU’s Pew Campus. New briefs Oct. 20

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder recently appointed 15 members to the governor’s council on genocide, including Michael Walenta, WGVU public media general manager. The council was created to increase genocide awareness and education by training teachers and providing educational experiences to students throughout the state.

Holly Miller will be speaking Tuesday, Oct. 18 about her travels through China over the past summer. Miller received the Gilman scholarship and is a Gilman scholar. Her talk will go from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Miller was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder at age four and since then has conquered many obstacles in her life.
