GVSU D2 hockey ties, wins in two-game series versus Michigan

With four games left in their regular season, the Grand Valley State men’s club hockey team (Division II) is making major tweaks before their hopeful playoff run. GVSU experienced a mixed bag of emotions after its two-game weekend series against the University of Michigan. The Lakers came out with a 3-3 OT tie on Friday, Feb. 10 and a blowout 10-2 victory Friday, Feb. 11.

Alumnus and Fox Sports Detroit broadcaster John Keating speaks at GVSU

He covers the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers, occasionally the Detroit Pistons, and at one time, Grand Valley State University. His name is John Keating, and he was back on campus to speak to students about the sports broadcasting industry and his career this past Friday, Jan. 27 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Lake Superior Hall, Room 174. Keating shared advice on breaking into the industry, personal anecdotes and answered questions from students during the 90-minute lecture.

GVSU D3 club men's hockey splits two games with Hope

The Grand Valley State men’s club hockey team (Division III) split a home and away weekend series against Hope College Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21. The Lakers travelled to Hope College Friday night for the first game between the two teams, but fell 3-2. The Lakers returned home to the Georgetown Ice Center Saturday, rebounding with a 6-1 victory.

GVSU D2 hockey goes 2-0-1 in three game road trip

Head coach of Grand Valley State’s club hockey team (Division II) Mike Forbes believes there is three stages of a team coming together: storming (finding the team’s identity), norming (buying into the system), and performing (playing to its true potential). Forbes can be proud to say his team has entered the performing stage after a successful three-game road series where the Lakers’ came out with two wins and a tie against three of the top teams in the southeast region.

Hein, Koleski heralded as the future of GVSU hockey

After a rough weekend outing against Miami of Ohio earlier this season, the Grand Valley State Division II club hockey team turned its season around to win their last six games, improving to an impressive 13-4-1 overall record. A big reason for that recent success has come from two of their up-and-coming stars in sophomore Austin Koleski and late-addition freshman Ryan Hein, who have begun to take a hold of the Lakers' offensive reins.
