GVSU public health program to hold benefit for hurricane victims

Although local students at Grand Valley State University may not have to worry about natural disasters during the school year, the rest of the country is not as fortunate. Following the destruction of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, the GVSU master of public health (MPH) program is teaming up with Grand Rapids-based Creston Brewery and SEARCH Homeless Services to raise funds for those who have been affected by the storms.

Breaking down the 'Yooper' accent

This week, Grand Valley State University's Kutsche Office of Local History is bringing in Kathryn Remlinger, professor of English at GVSU, to speak about dialect and identity in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. All students are invited to attend the LIB 100/201-approved event in Room 2270 of the Kirkhof Center Thursday, Sept. 14, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Helping Flint brick by brick

With the nation’s focus on Hurricane Harvey, many have forgotten there is an ongoing water crisis in Flint, Michigan. However, Fabian Haywood, an alumnus from Grand Valley State University, knows there is still work to be done in Flint. Because of this, he is currently attempting to aid the community by developing stable housing.

For feminists, superhero fans and movie enthusiasts alike, the Grand Valley State University Big Screen Theatre in the Kirkhof Center will be showing “Wonder Woman” from Friday, Sept. 8, through Thursday, Sept. 21, with showings at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
