Laker Life briefs 2/22/18

The 2018 Mosaic Lecture is set to focus on women in mathematics in order to celebrate diversity in mathematical sciences. This year’s lecture, being given by Deanna Haunsperger, will focus on the lessons that female mathematicians have contributed to the field. The event is set to take place from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The Grand Valley State University Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is set to host an event centered on the history of African-American soul food on Friday, Feb. 16, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center lobby.

From the track to med school: GVSU student athlete finds success in sports, the classroom

For students at Grand Valley State University, the struggle of balancing classes, a social life and sleep is a daily reality. For pre-medical senior Grace Peterson, this has never been more true. A full course load, medical school applications, interviews, and track and field have kept her schedule full, but she is finding a way to make it work during her final semester at GVSU.

The final installment of Last Laker Standing, the annual stand-up comedy competition for students at Grand Valley State University, is set for Saturday, Feb. 10, starting at 8 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center Pere Marquette Room.

Care Allen, OMA to present 'Body Image and Blackness'

Care Allen, style consultant for Fashion With Care, has teamed up with the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) to present “Body Image and Blackness” and discuss the evolution of black body image. The presentation will be held Friday, Feb. 9, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Rooms 2215/2216.
