Three GVSU professors named Fulbright Scholars

Grand Valley State University is a top producer of Fulbright Student and Scholar award winners. For the 2017-18 academic year, three GVSU faculty members have been selected for the Core Fulbright Scholars Program: Lisa Feurzeig, professor of music; Brian Phillips, professor of sociology; and Jitendra Mishra, professor of management.

Padnos International Center holding study-abroad photo contest

Each year, close to 800 or more Grand Valley State University students choose to travel to another country. They may choose from 60 GVSU programs or from hundreds of opportunities held by other schools. For the third year in a row, the Padnos International Center’s PICS Study Abroad Photo Contest will showcase pictures that students have taken while studying in other countries. The photos will be shown Friday, March 9, through Friday, March 23, and can be voted on during this time.

Acclaimed professor lectures on women in mathematics

On Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Loutit Lecture Hall, Deanna Haunsperger came to deliver the fifth annual installment of the Mosaic Lecture Series at Grand Valley State University. Her speech, titled “Making Connections: Lessons Learned From Women Mathematicians,” told stories of different women who have made massive impacts in the world of mathematics.

Professor to lecture on racial battle fatigue syndrome

To continue to commemorate Black History Month at Grand Valley State University, professor Lois Owens will lead an interactive seminar about racial battle fatigue syndrome. The seminar will take place Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the DeVos Center, Room 107D. Students, faculty, staff and the public are welcome to attend.

Democracy 101 lecture to focus on human rights

The Democracy 101 series is returning to campus this week. The lecture “Human Rights and the Promise of Democracy” will be presented by Grand Valley State University associate professor of political science Karen Zivi on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Room 2266.
