GVSU misses out on fourth straight national championship

For the first time in four years, the Grand Valley State women’s soccer team did not emerge as national champions after the last game of the season. The Lakers fell one game, one goal short in a 3-2 loss to the Western Washington Vikings in the NCAA Division II National Championship Saturday, Dec. 3 at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri.

GVSU downs Columbus State 3-0 in semifinal

In a rematch of the 2015 NCAA Finals, the Grand Valley State women’s soccer team faced off against Columbus State in the NCAA Semifinals, and like last season, the Lakers bested the Cougars, this time by one more goal. The Lakers beat Columbus State 3-0 to move onto to the team’s fourth straight NCAA National Championship.

History could be made by the GVSU women's soccer team this upcoming Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 1-3 as the Lakers travel to Kansas City, Missouri in search of their fourth consecutive NCAA National Championship title and sixth overall. GVSU is currently tied with Franklin Pierce University with five total national championships. The Lakers will square off against Columbus State in a rematch of last year’s national semifinal contest and, should GVSU win, would face the winner of the Western Washington versus Kutztown match in the championship game.

GVSU soccer to host Truman State in regional final

After a 2-0 win over Missouri-St. Louis in the NCAA Regional Semifinal, the Grand Valley State soccer team will host Truman State in the regional final Friday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. The Lakers (20-1-1) have beaten the Bulldogs in the first weekend of the regular season the past two seasons.

GVSU senior class gears up for final playoff run

When a collegiate program brings in a recruiting class, the hope is that one or two of the newcomers can contribute their freshman year, and that the rest will be in the lineup by the time they are upperclassmen. This holds true for most classes, but not the Grand Valley State women’s soccer team class of 2016. In the 2013 national championship run, the 2016 class played a vital role in the success of the team.
