GVSU men's basketball comes up empty during Upper Peninsula weekend series

It was a long, long bus ride home to Allendale for the Grand Valley State men’s basketball team. The Lakers dropped both of their contests during their Upper Peninsula road trip against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contenders Michigan Tech Huskies (12-9, 9-5 GLIAC) on Thursday, Feb. 1, and the Northern Michigan Wildcats (13-8, 10-4 GLIAC) on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Preview: Depth, confidence lead GVSU baseball into new season

The 2017 Grand Valley State baseball team was a good one. They finished the season 31-23 and relied heavily on their offensive presence to win games due to a litany of injuries within the pitching staff, hampering their ability to get outs reliably. Despite not winning the GLIAC Championship, the Lakers had a productive season. The players learned a lot about themselves, and the coaches learned how they can get better. This season—the 2018 Lakers—is when better comes to light, even with the lost production of the now-graduated Seth Johnson, Matt Williams, Alex Young and Keith Browning.

Creating a legacy: GVSU men's DIII hockey continues tradition of giving back to community

Sports help to unite people. They are a source of entertainment, a source of passion for the fans and a source of adrenaline for the athletes. Sometimes, sports can go beyond their primary purpose. Sometimes, they help turn a tragedy into an incredible story, uniting players, fans and everyone around them. The Grand Valley State men’s Division III club hockey team did just that. This past weekend, the club raised more than $7,000 (and counting) during their “Hockey Fights Cancer” game against Hope College on Saturday, Jan. 27.
