GVSU women's tennis GLIAC tournament preview

Throw records out the window, because its tournament time for the Grand Valley State women's tennis team. Last season, GVSU was the heavy favorite to win the GLIAC tournament after an 11-1 conference season and the No. 1 overall seeding in the tournament. This year has been a different story.

GVSU women's tennis beats Walsh, Ashland

The weather is beginning to change which means the fall women's tennis season for Grand Valley State is coming to a close. The Lakers swept their final GLIAC weekend series with a 6-3 victory over Walsh Saturday, Oct. 15, and a 9-0 win over Ashland Sunday, Oct. 16. GVSU currently sits at third-place in GLIAC standings and at this point cannot ascend any higher.

GVSU women's tennis splits two game GLIAC road trip

It's safe to say the weekend was a tale of two matches for the Lakers. Once again, the Grand Valley State women’s tennis team hit the road for a weekend GLIAC series, this time matching up against two Ohio competitors. The Lakers split the two matches, losing to Tiffin 3-6 Saturday, Oct. 8 and dominated Findlay 9-0 Sunday, Oct. 9.

GVSU women's tennis beats Hillsdale, Wayne State

The Grand Valley State women’s tennis team made its way across the state of Michigan this past weekend, upending conference foes Hillsdale 7-2 Saturday, Oct.1 and Wayne State 5-4 Sunday, Oct. 2. The weekend sweep keeps the Lakers tied for second place in the GLIAC conference behind Northwood, which remains unbeaten in conference play.

GVSU women's tennis hosts ITA Regionals

The Grand Valley State women’s tennis team put its skills to the test against some of the toughest competition in the Midwest region at the 2016 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Regional Championships tournament Sept. 23-25 at multiple locations in the greater Grand Rapids area.

GVSU to host USTA/ITA regional championships

The Grand Valley State women’s tennis team will host the 2016 USTA/ITA Regional Championship Tournament this Friday, Sept. 23. The squad looks to rebound from its first loss of the season last weekend. The top five teams from the GLIAC conference will participate including undefeated Northwood University.

GVSU splits GLIAC weekend series

After a red hot start to the season, the Grand Valley State women’s tennis team faced reality this past weekend after defeating archrival Saginaw Valley State 6-3, but then fell to Northwood 5-4. Both games were away from Allendale as the team made its first road trip of the season.

GVSU women's tennis sophomore rebounding after rocky freshman year

“You have got to want to be the best before you can even begin to reach for that final goal, and you have got to be prepared to sacrifice a lot to get there,” said Billie Jean King, a pioneer for women’s tennis. Grand Valley State womens tennis player Madison Ballard epitomizes what it means to face adversity head on and make the necessary sacrifices to reach her ultimate goal.
