Midterm: Lakers ace every test after 2-2 start

After the first weekend of the 2014 season, several question marks sprung up regarding the Grand Valley State University volleyball team. The Lakers posted a 2-2 record at the Oredigger Classic in Colorado, leading many to question if GVSU was worthy of its No. 14 ranking in Division II.

While Grand Valley State University volleyball head coach Deanne Scanlon was in Chicago on the recruiting trail watching future Laker Katie Olson, an explosive 6-foot-2 athlete caught her eye. The perfect timing of the situation allowed Scanlon, to, in a sense, kill two birds with one stone.

Unlike many collegiate volleyball players, junior Kaleigh Lound opted not to play club volleyball while in high school. Instead she played four sports, something Grand Valley State University coach Deanne Scanlon is attracted to when searching for talent.


Lakers avenge regional title defeat, beat FSU

In December, the Ferris State volleyball team ended Grand Valley State's season at Fieldhouse Arena in a five-set regional championship match, snapping GVSU’s 21-game win streak. Since then, the Lakers have had that loss in the back of their minds, waiting for a chance to exact revenge.
